Mindful Bodies: The Penis Files [Video]

by mandy lipka

Often the first connection with mindfulness is that with our bodies. It starts with breathing and then moves to all of our precious parts. As we’ve seen in the media ad nauseam in the last year and beyond, there are precious lady parts being violated in a land that proclaims to be free.

Many of us women with empowered lady parts share our rage and educational information via social networks in hopes of banding together to conquer this inequality for the youngsters who will carry on after us. One of my favorite Vs-in-Crime is comedy writer, feminist and activist, Katie Schwartz. I first fell in love with Katie after reading (and nearly dying of laughter) her incredible heart-warmingly truthful post about entering womanhood, a post which should be wallpapered across every middle school and high school hallway in America.

In her latest effort to punch out the penis bias of our country, Katie produced and directed a mockumentary aptly titled: The Penis Files. For good reason, the mockumentary’s gained approval from the likes of Queerty and feminist rock stars, A is For. Without waxing on any more, I urge you to take a mindful moment, or 16 delicious ones, to watch and share.

Pretty amazing, huh? With more mockumetaries like these, imagine what dialogue would be started…

If you liked that one, don’t stop there. Katie is busy doing what she does best– kicking ass– as creator of the hilarious confessional comedy series, You’re Thinking of Someone Else. YTOSE is a fantastically witty series that pokes fun, but also portrays women in weirdly and often awkwardly, empowered roles in a way that Sex and the City and Girls could only dream.

For more viewing pleasure, I give you the amazing Donuts episode. Feast!

For more feminist hilarity, be sure to follow the ferociously talented Katie: @KatieSchwartz. And please, spread The Penis Files for vulvas and vaginas everywhere!
